Vintage Computers

Somehow the topic of computer speed came up again. Remember when computers didn’t have multi-core processors or groovy names like Pentium, Xenon, and Opteron? Anyone remember when the 386 came out? What was before that? Some of you are probably old enought to remember Micro-Channel Architecture.

Well, that brought out Mr. Peabody and the “Way Back Machine” (old tv show saying).

Here’s my list of Vintage computers:

TRS-80 – Affectionatly known as the “trash” 80. This was my first exposure to computers in High School, 1977.

Atari 800 – 860Hz, 48k memory and both floppy and casette storage. The cool part is you could play cartridge games too! This must have been 1981 or 1982.

PCjr – The first PC for home use from Big Blue. It was way ahead of it time and came with a wireless keyboard in 1984

PS/2 P70 – A luggable computer with a 386 processor available in 1989. This baby weighed as much as a bowling ball and maxed out at 16mb of RAM with 120mb hard disk (my phone has 512mb microSD card). I still have it and boots with Windows 3.1.

Dell – a long, long list of Dell computers….

So, let’s hear your list!
